Mr. David Lesens, CFO of Heraeus, gave us explanation about HERAEUS and also about "how to make a successful company"

Heraeus is a globally active precious metal and technology Group based in Hanau, near Frankfurt, and with deep roots in Germany. The company has been family-owned for moren than 160 years.

Their business groups cover precious metals, materials and technologies, sensors, biomaterials, medical, dental, and pharmaceutical products, quartz glass, and specialty light sources. Currently Heraeus holds more than 5,900 patents. Over 400 R&D employees in 25 development centers around the world are producing the innovations that are the hallmark of our company. In 2011, on the strength of more than 13,300 employees in more than 120 companies.

In 1983, Dr. Jürgen Heraeus took the helm, the fourth generation to lead the family-owned company. Under his guidance, the enterprise became a full-fledged global corporation. After founding Heraeus Holding GmbH in 1985, he reorganized the Group from the ground up. He assigned its core activities to five decentralized, independently operating managing companies: W. C. Heraeus (precious metals), Heraeus Electro-Nite (sensors), Heraeus Kulzer (dental and medical products), Heraeus Quarzglas (quartz glass), and Heraeus Noblelight (specialty lighting sources).

These new management structures prepared Heraeus well for globalization. Dr. Jürgen Heraeus extended the Group’s activities into Asia, and it soon achieved the revenues and operating results of a truly worldwide group of companies.

Precious Metals

The precious metals business group processes gold, silver, platinum group metals, and special metals, primarily to produce industrial products and key markets are Glass industry, Automotive industry, Jewellery, Banks

Materials Technology

The materials and technologies business group provides high-tech industrial products from precious metals.

Electronic circuits and components are found in computers and mobile phones.

Electro-Nite

The Electro-Nite is the world market leader in sensor and measurement systems for the steel, aluminum, and foundry industries. As a recognized specialist in measurements for molten iron, steel, and aluminum,

To ensure the quality of molten steel, its temperature and chemical composition must be constantly monitored. Heraeus immersion sensors take precise measurements of these parameters within seconds directly in the molten steel, rendering time-consuming sample analyses in laboratories unnecessary. This increases throughput and lowers energy consumption during steel making.

The dental products business group (Heraeus Dental), a single-source provider of prosthetics and systems for the conservation and restoration of natural teeth, has an extensive range of products for dental laboratories and dentists.

Quarzglas

The quartz glass business group (Heraeus Quarzglas) is the technology leader and materials specialist for the manufacture and processing of high-purity quartz glass. It excels in all key processes for producing different quartz glass types for the semiconductor and telecommunications industries as well as applications for the optical, chemical, and lamp industries.

Noblelight

Heraeus Noblelight counts itself among the market and technology leaders worldwide for special lamps with wavelengths from ultraviolet to infrared for industrial, scientific, and medical applications. With locations in Germany, the United Kingdom, China, and the USA, the segment manufactures lamps for analytical measurement technology and the printing industry, infrared emitters for industrial heating processes, arc and flash lamps, and products for water disinfection and air treatment, as well as sun simulation and photochemistry with a high level of vertical integration.

Heraeus have corporate responsibility and internship. Responsible corporate is necessary to Heraeus. So they get together with employees from different business groups and the management. They also held workshops on corporate responsibility. They pay attention in the areas of human welfare, health, occupational safety, innovation and lifelong learning, as well as social involvement on the part of their employees.
