LSG Sky Chefs / Incheon Airport

On April 25th we visited LSG Sky Chefs at Incheon International Airport. Mr. Gareth Lycett gave us some explanations about the company, about intercultural aspects in business. Later we had a tour through the company.

The LSG Sky Chefs group is the global leader in airline catering and the management of all in-flight service related processes. In 1942 American Airlines created Sky chefs, a wholly owned airline catering service based in AG. The Chief Executive Officer of LSG is Walter Gehl The group consists of 148 companies with 194 customer service centers in 52 countries. In 2011, it produced about 492 million airline meals for more than 300 airlines worldwide. LSG Sky Chefs' parent company, LSG Lufthansa Service Holding AG, is headquartered in Neu-Isenburg, Germany. LSG Sky Chefs acquired its comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the in-flight service management business through almost 70 years of experience. The company was formed after the takeover of Sky Chefs, American Airlines' former catering subsidiary, by Lufthansa’s catering division Lufthansa Service GmbH. Through its catering expertise, LSG Sky Chefs has developed specialized skills in the planning, implementation and management of all processes related to in-flight services. That includes the design, development, procurement and logistics related to in-flight services equipment. As a logical extension of its capacities, LSG Sky Chefs has also begun a successful incursion into adjacent markets, such as train, school and healthcare catering as well as retail.

Walter Nikolaus Gehl assumed office as Chief Executive Officer of LSG Lufthansa Service Holding AG (LSG Holding) on March 9, 2005. He holds responsibility for Human Resources and the Corporate Functions Strategy, Communication and Marketing, Legal and Corporate Affairs including Compliance as well as for Internal Audit.

LSG Sky Chefs ensured a positive brand experience for passengers by creating in-flight service concepts tailor-made to Czech Airlines' specific needs and characteristics.
 
TAM
LSG Sky Chefs and TAM Airlines have worked together on service concepts and the development of creative menus and have now taken a step forward to providing tailor-made equipment and logistics solutions.
 
Qantas
 
Alaska Airlines
Alaska Airlines was looking for alternative ways of doing business. Together LSG Sky Chefs and Alaska Airlines developed a new service model that reduces costs while maintaining a high level of quality and service, ultimately ensuring passenger satisfaction.
 
Lufthansa
For more than a decade Lufthansa has worked with LSG Sky Chefs to handle all aspects of its in-flight services. Together we oversee everything from service, planning and loading activities to managing the airline’s entire in-flight supply chain.
 
Asiana Airline
Asiana Airline is the best customer of LSG Sky Chefs Korea. About 90% of LSG Korea businesses are catering to Asiana. LSG Korea offers not only cater but also everything in-flight service.
 
7-eleven and GS25
LSG Korea supplys goods to 7-eleven and GS25. They delivery goods to in-flight service or such like it.
 
 
PART 3. Catering service
LSG tries to serve localization of food, for example, 비빔밥, 야채쌈밥, 잡채밥, and 갈비.
For serving Premium customized meals and Diversification of Food to customers, LSG has developed a star chef program for making special local food. Lsg sky chefs korea scouts 박효남chefs, who is world-famous man. They make high quality food and change menu every 2 month to provide with many kinds of food.
Currently, star chef program is used in India, Japan, China, Singapore, Thailand, the Middle East, America, South America and Korea.
LSG sky chefs partners with more than 300 airlines worldwide and operates almost 200 customer service centers in 50 countries, producing around 460 million meals a year.
The airline carriers served by LSG Sky Chefs can vary from airport to airport, but some major customers are Lufthansa , American Airlines , Delta Air Lines , Asiana Airlines , Swiss International Airlines , United Airlines , Alaska Airlines , Korean Air , Finnair , and Aeroflot
Airport lounge service
Lsg also provides customers with Lounge service. They seek one-stop-shop lounge service, which means without constraint of space and time. And for understanding customer’s needs, they try to serve High-Quality service and every aspect from food to shower facilities and laundry.
Non-airline Catering
 
LSG is known as the world's leader in airline catering but they are also working with customers outside the aviation industry, providing high-quality catering and logistics services. For example, LSG Sky Chefs Industrial Catering division in Hong Kong supplies meals to the Hong Kong school district and in the United States LSG Sky Chefs partners with 세븐일레븐providing them with freshly made sandwiches, salads and wraps. In Scandinavia LSG Sky Chefs partners with Swedish Railways on buy-on-board services for the rail company's passengers. In Germany and other countries LSG Sky Chefs also caters hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
